amplitude
[px]
Max. oscillation from the rest position of a
saccade
Note: The same effect on saccadic amplitude
(and fixation duration) can be found when
subject read texts of varying difficulty (Rayner
and Pollatsek 1989). Beginning, poor and
dyslectic readers have shorter saccadic
amplitudes. In oral reading, average saccadic
amplitude falls to around 6 letters (1:5 ), while
during music reading and typing, saccades are a
mere 1 on average. For subjects reading
musical scores, Kinsler and Carpenter (1995)
found that the mean saccadic amplitude
increased as the tempo of the performance
increased.
